Website  - www.muscrai.ie

As our website is in the very early stages we are currently trying to get as much information as possible on the website  on the various programmes we run, the type of work we do in Gaeltacht Mhúscraí, and the services and opportunities which are available to the community.   We are hoping to raise awarness within and outside of the community of, not alone what we are involved in but what the whole area of Gealtacht Mhúscraí has to offer.

We would welcome feedback on our new website and would like to know what you think should be included.

Support to Community and Voluntary Groups

Updating Directory of
Community and Voluntary Groups
in Gaeltacht Mhúscraí

A questionnaire is currently  being compiled for all the Community and Voluntary groups in the Gaeltacht Mhúscraí area. The aim of this is to get all the up to date details from the groups in order to compile a directory which will be included in our website. From this we are hoping to increase the profile groups by letting the public know about them. This will hopefully raise more awarness of the work they do and encourage more people to get involved.
This questionnaire will be distributed to the groups within the next few weeks. There will be follow up with the groups after that and it is hoped that the updated details will then be included on our  website. There will be an option for the groups to use this as a means of advertising events etc.  either directly through the mfg-Meitheal Mhúscraí website or by offering a link to their own website.
Dialann Mhúscraí is also available to Community and Voluntary groups to promote their activities, both here on the website, and in printed form. It is distributed to approximately 2,500 homes in the Gaeltacht Mhúscraí area at the start of each month, and entries are free.

Participation of Vulnerable Groups

Scoraíocht an Deardaoín

In 2001 the local Social Housing committees, Pobal ar Aire and mfg-Meitheal Mhúscraí got together to discuss ways of encouraging participation of people in the community, who for various reasons are not able to take part in the social, cultural and economic life of the area. Older people in particular were recognised as one of these groups. It was decided, as a pilot programme, to organise one or two get togethers for these people where they chat, have a cuppa, a song and a dance. Transport was also available.

This has gone from strength to strength and now Scoraíocht an Déardaoin takes place in the Ionad Áise, Réidh na nDoirí on the third Thursday of each month. The group have taken part in a number of activities and  go on various outings.

Ability Group

People with disability are another group which were identified as having limited acess to  participation in  community life. mfg-Meitheal Mhúcsraí invited people with disability to come together and from this the ‘ability group’ was born.  They meet once a month either here in the Ionad Áise or go on an organised outing.

Parent and Toddler group

Réidh na nDoirí Parent & Toddler group meet in the Ionad Áise, Réidh na nDoirí every Wednesday morning from 10.00am – 12.00noon. This gives parents of young children a social outlet and is a great means of integration for new people in the area. From meeting other parents it gives them an opportunity to find out about, participate in and contribute to life of the community.

'Torach go Brollach'

Breastfeeding Support Group

Meet at the Ionad Áise Réidh na nDoirí on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 2.30 – 4.30pm
